We’ve all seen the news that Mark Zuckerberg annouced that Facebook will be releasing a new messaging system and he says that email is outdated with the younger crowd. A 2009 study of high school students conducted for the Pew Internet and American Life Project showed 11 per cent used email on a daily basis to get in touch with friends, while 54 per cent said they text. It’s interesting he says its outdated yet when you’ll sign up for is new messaging system, they assign an @facebook.com address (look eerily like an email address :) ).

BUT, what about business. They do not used Facebook for their B2B messaging. Will there be a shift towards a more direct messaging system like the one Facebook will be offering? Maybe, but definitely not through Facebook because of privacy concerns. Email inherently is not secure itself (most is not encrypted) but most people dont know that. So what does the future see? Who knows. But email is definitely not dead (ok, Zuckerberg may be right about it being outdated). I see room for all forms of communication.
